Vanitas #3

I finally completed the third in my vanitas series.

My intent is to pay homage to the dutch masters and do so in my own way by adding my own twist. Instead of dark and brooding backgrounds, my series will be lighter and higher key.

I am pretty happy with this but thought the crochet table scarf would never be finished. When it was finished, I sat it aside and viewed it a few days, finally deciding that I needed to show one more sign of new life.....the catepilar. The symbolism for death is not strong enough in these first three paintings and I intend to strengthen that aspect in coming paintings.

Richeson75: International Still Life & Florals Competition

I just received back my unsold entry "Vanitas #1" from the Richeson 75: International Still Life and Florals Competition. It was juried into the competition by Terry Howell Stanley, Director of Richeson School of Art and Gallery. The competition and subsequent show was held in Kimberly, Wisconsin. The show was also hosted on the web and a lovely exhibit catalog was printed.

I strive to enter the very best shows and concentrate now on those shows which offer a good cash prize as well as an influential show in a gallery setting.
